An amateur filmmaker in Uraguay recently uploaded a five-minute short film to YouTube and landed a purported $300 Million movie-deal from it. The short features very little dialog and is basically just a montage of a giant robot army attacking the Earth. It has amazingly good special effects for a film which cost the filmmaker all of $30 to produce. I thought it was pretty cool myself because I love retro sci-fi and the giant robot theme comes straight out of the 1930s and the 1940s. The filmmaker however gave it a modern look and feel. The filmmaker, Fede Alvarez was quoted saying, “I uploaded (Panic Attack!) on a Thursday and on Monday my inbox was totally full of e-mails from Hollywood studios”. The movie deal ultimately came from Sam Raimi’s Ghost House studio.
