Haiti: Out of a Frying Pan Into the Fire

From a charity standpoint, I’ve been looking at Haiti for awhile now. Their poverty level is astronomical. 1 in every 5 children there are dying from malnutrition. They are plagued with a slave trade, unsanitary conditions, and famine. They are in dire need of help and I am planning on sponsoring a child from there through World Vision. And now, this happens to them. This is a classic case of falling out of the frying pan and into the fire. A devastating 7.0 earthquake has laid ruin to many of the populated areas. Due to poor construction, the buildings in the major cities were in danger of collapsing as it was and this quake took many of them down including the UN office and a major hospital. The numbers are not in yet, but the death toll is expected to be high. People will be without homes and at least short one hospital. This compounds the problem because thousands were injured.

The Haitian people were in dire need before, and now they need us more than ever. Please pray for these people. Jesus told us to feed, clothe, and give water to the “least of these” meaning: those who are in the most need. And right now, Haiti is in most dire need. Do what you can to help, even if that is simply contributing funds to those who are there helping to provide rations and healthcare. World Vision is a great organization that I have supported for awhile now. They already had a presence there in Haiti and are currently preparing as much help for these people as we can give them. Please give what you can or sponsor a child from there at:

Let’s take a break from our lavish lifestyles and look at the world around us. After all, thousands of Americans every year are gorging themselves on Caribbean cruise ships as they sail right past one of the poorest and most starving nations in the world. Please pray for them and for how you might be able to make a difference to them.
